WRECK SPECIALTY COURSES
The HTMS Sattakut
We have our own wreck, the HTMS Sattakut, just off of Sairee Beach, here in Koh Tao. The Sattakut was originally a landing craft infantry vessel commissioned by the US Navy in 1944 and was involved in three battles in World War II: the liberation of the Palau Islands, the battle of Okinawa, and the battle of Iwo Jima. In 1946 the US Navy decommissioned the Sattakut, and it was sold to the Royal Thai Navy in 1947. The Thai Navy used the Sattakut as a patrol boat until it was once again decommissioned. The Sattakut was then donated to Koh Tao, where it was purposely sunk in June 2011.
Currently, the HTMS Sattakut sits at about 30 meters deep less than a 10 minute boat ride away from Sairee Beach. Not only is this wreck itself a wonder to see, it has also attracted a wide variety of aquatic life, making the Sattakut one of the most popular dive sites around Koh Tao. Sits at a depth of 24 to 30m deep.
